Hackfalls Arboretum, 62km from Gisborne, is enchanting all year. Hackfalls features 100 acres of rare shrubs and trees in grazed pastures.
Tairawhiti Museum and Art Gallery features an excellent programme of New Zealand contemporary art exhibitions and Watersheds.
In 1920 a decision was made to relocate the light to the mainland and in April 1922, the light was extinguished and then relit at its current location in December of that year.
Reached by a 30-minutes’ drive from Gisborne, Rere Rock Slide is a 60m rock where you can slide down a hill on a piece of cardboard or any replacement. This place is full of fun for you and your kids!
Drive approximately 50km north-west from Gisborne on the Wharekopae Road towards the Eastwoodhill Arboretum and you will reach the small community of Rere. Heading down to the Wharekopae River will bring you to the Rere Falls and the Rere Rock Slide (we should mention that these are two different parts of the river just in case you're wondering if people really slide over the falls).
